Tuesday, American Airlines (NASDAQ: AAL) announced it will be adding a new route to Australia that will be flying into Sydney. According to USA Today, the nonstop service between Los Angeles and Sydney will begin in December. American is using this new flight to strengthen its presence among trans-Pacific routes, where it will go head-to-head with similar routes from rival airlines Delta (NYSE: DAL), United (NYSE: UAL), and Virgin America, as well as Qantas, American's Australian partner.
