Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) is adding a non-stop service between Seattle and Orlando starting in December 2015 that will put them in direct competition with their partner Alaska Airlines (NYSE: ALK). According to USA Today, this incident is not the first time that Delta planned routes that are head-to-head competition with Alaska Airlines flights. Since 2014, there is an increase in overlap seen with Delta adding flights from Seattle to Boise and Sacramento, as well as other routes to destinations in Alaska. Starting this winter, Delta and Alaska will operate on opposite schedules for its Seattle and Orlando flight services. Recently, Alaskan announced it is adding new flights from Salt Lake City, Delta’s hub, and added three new flight routes in direct competition with Delta services from Los Angles, a location that USA Today designated as a “focus city” for both airlines.
