Just a few weeks after Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX) debuted its plans to offer employee's full tuition for Arizona State University’s online program, Fiat Chrysler (NASDAQ: FCAM) announced it is starting a program of its own to cover the cost of college degrees for employees who work at Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram Truck and FIAT dealerships. According to CNN Money, Fiat Chrysler will assist 118,000 employees from 2,400 dealerships throughout the country to participate in the program offering associates, bachelors and masters degrees through Strayer University’s Degrees@Work program. "What we're trying to do is make it a zero-cost deal for these employees. Their college degree is 100% funded," stated Al Gardner, CEO of the Chrysler brand. This degree program, which normally cost $42,000, will be completely free to the employees including the cost of books and other expenses. Each dealer who opts his employees into the program will pay a flat fee to enroll his or her employees. Employees have the opportunity to take courses in different subjects including business, education and accounting. An employee only needs to be working at the dealership for 30 days before they are deemed eligible for the program and are not required to continue working at the dealership to finish the degree. CNN Money states Fiat Chrysler’s intention is to obtain and keep quality employees with this initiative. The program starts in 356 dealerships in the Southeast and will launch nationwide at the end of the quarter.
